Responsibilities:

To maintain a variety of electrical equipment onsite to ensure efficient operation of the mill and automated processes, including:

  • Testing, servicing and repairs of valves and controllers
  • Maintenance of process measurement equipment
  • Motor changes and alignments
  • Understanding and working with industrial control systems
  • Condition analysis – thermal imaging
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Understanding PLC control
  • Process control programming
  • High Voltage and low voltage power systems

Areas studied at college:

  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Math with practical application to engineering
  • Mechanical principles
  • PLC control
  • Power systems
  • Design of electrical circuits

Additional training:

  • Use of hand and power tools
  • Workshop Machinery
  • Understanding and reading electrical drawings and documentation
  • Operation of a cherry picker
  • Operation of overhead cranes and hoists

Your education

To be trained in all technical aspects of the mechanical maintenance processes and complete the apprenticeship programme in accordance with the college and national requirements.

 

Location: College of West Anglia, King’s Lynn (Day release, once week) ,
Electrical Department at Palm Paper, King’s Lynn (4 days per week) 
Reporting to: Training Supervisor Engineering or Appointed Mentor
Contract length: 3 years

After successfully completing the apprenticeship, you will qualify with a Level 3 Certificate in Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician and will be become a Junior Engineer at Palm Paper.

 

Further education/development

Following successful completion of a mechanical competency skill set in year 4 at the mill, you could be promoted to an Electrical Engineer.

There is scope within the role to expand and develop personally with additional training through higher national qualifications, degrees or on specific subject matter.
